In addition, we asked the team at Content by Terence Conran a few questions to discover a little more behind the scenes of this popular brand:
Could you start us off with the design philosophy behind Content by Terence Conran?
Thirteen years ago Terence Conran set out to create a range of beautifully designed furniture that was accessible, worked well and would bring pleasure for years to come. Embodying the Conran philosophy and combined with his signature easy-living style, Terence Conran explains the philosophy behind the brand; “My ambition has always been to make good design accessible by creating products that work well, are affordable and look beautiful, qualities that I believe are reflected throughout the Content by Terence Conran collection. It is comfortable, fresh and perfect for modern living.”
Sir Terence Conran is well known for being the founder of Habitat and The Conran Shop, as well as a high profile designer and architect. What influence does Conran himself have over the Content range?
Terence Conran always has and still maintains a very hands on approach, both in terms of the initial design brief, as well as the development of the product.
The Balance Coffee Table has been awarded the prestigious Design Guild Mark by the Furniture Maker’s Company. What was the inspiration behind this award winning range?
The design philosophy behind the Balance range was to create clever visual design to give it a unique look and functionality.
What makes it unique is the fact the vertical panels are staggered in from the ends of the shelves, so creating a feeling of movement and tension as the sides of each ‘enclosed space’ are stepped in and out at each level.
This is all done through the simple arrangement of the panels; hence a simple design solution creating a simple yet strong visual identity that can work in a vast array of interior styles as it’s classically contemporary.
One of the reasons our buyers get excited by the Content by Terence Conran catalogue is because it is such a relaxed range that works well in many environments. Can you give us any previews as to what may be coming in 2016/17?
We have some exciting new products being launched, as well as some of our current collections expanding with new finishes and sizes. The Mica range has been re-designed with some exciting twists, as well as the ever popular Chelsea range expanding with a new shape. We are also adding to our upholstery range with some beautiful new designs, so stay tuned!
Finally, could you leave us with why design matters to you?
We believe design matters because when it works, it is the perfect combination of aesthetic beauty and absolute practicality; both things we think should be available to everyone. We think that good design should be accessible to everyone; it is at the heart of the philosophy that Terence Conran has created and developed in Britain since the 1960’s when he founded Habitat.
