Moody Monday are our Supplier of the Week; 20 – 26 June.
Led by creative director Eliza Kesuma, Moody Monday is a luxury wallpaper, textiles and home accessories brand which was established having noticed a niche in the market whilst working for an interiors company. They recently added a new pattern collection to their Edinburgh-made range.
We caught up with the team to find out more.
How did Moody Monday start out?
I started Moody Monday in 2014 after noticing a niche in the interiors market for distinctive designs that challenged traditional creative concepts. Having studied Textiles Design at University (specializing in Print) and then worked in the design industry for some years after graduating, my mission was to develop a signature style that was innovative, stylish and luxurious.
Where does your design inspiration come from?
My designs are inspired by unconventional beauty that surrounds us. For me, it’s about taking inspiration from the most unlikely places. For example, The ‘Secret Music’ collection was inspired by the inner workings of a musical organ while the intriguing beauty of the sky and space inspired the recently launched ‘Stellar’ collection.
How are your products made?
We combine traditional screen-printing methods with hand-drawn illustration and computer manipulated imagery of modern life. Our wallpapers are lovingly screen-printed by hand using heavy weight paper with durability in mind. We’re definitely over-zealous about colour so we embrace the use of striking colour palettes. It is also important to us that we use environmentally safe and sustainable materials and processes.
You recently launched a new range over at ICFF – tell us more?
Our new ‘Stellar’ collection was inspired by extraordinary shapes & textures hidden within the sky and space. From the dazzling colours of the Northern Lights to the abstract patterns of constellations, we want everyone to explore an often over-looked beauty. The range consists of four wallpaper designs in varying colour ways, three fabric patterns, two cushion designs, four coasters, and a set of matching fabric coaster and place mat designs.
It was your first time at the show, how did you find it?
Our debut appearance at ICFF New York was a successful one. Our designs received fantastic feedback and we hope to go again next year! We’re really looking forward to developing new partnerships to help us engage with the US market.
What is new for 2016/17 / Will you be exhibiting later this year?
We’ll be exhibiting again in Brussels in September at MoOD 2016 (Meet Only Original Designs).
Where have your products been used recently?
We recently collaborated with a furniture maker who used one of our ‘Stellar’ designs to upholster their collection; we were fortunate to be able to display a couple of pieces from this collection as part of our exhibit at ICFF. In addition to this, we have mainly been supplying the commercial market, across the UK, with a number of different wallpaper designs.
